My computer cannot connect to https

If your computer fits the following symptoms:

Browser cannot connect to secure https:// websites, but can connect to non-secure http:// websites.

You cannot connect to Facebook website, but you can navigate to other websites.

Your anti-virus program reports that its definitions are out of date, but a definition update fails or times out.

You cannot download any Windows updates or navigate to update.microsoft.com.

 

Then your computer was (or is) infected with a virus. As a first step, go into your browser's proxy settings and check that a proxy is not enabled. Secondly, run a full (preferably boot-time) scan of your computer with an up-to-date anti-virus program such as Avast!.
