How to sort text and remove duplicates

There are times when you have a long list of entries in text, and you need to sort it, or remove duplicates. While specialized software may exist for this task, I have developed a good enough trick.

Select the list in Libre Office / Open Office Writer. Paste it as text into OO Calc. Select the pasted text. Sort the cells (ascending or descending order). If there are duplicates, they can be removed manually. Copy cells. Paste back into OO Writer as unformatted text (not spreadsheet cells).

There is also a text sorting feature option in LibreOffice / OpenOffice Writer:

  1. Select the text entries you want sorted
  2. Select menu option Tools > Sort...
  3. Accept default settings by clicking OK button on dialog window that comes up.
  4. That's it!
