A: Use PowerToys TweakUI. This very useful utility, strangely not at all promoted by Microsoft, is able to change many settings, among them:
- Control program focus (whether an opening program pops a window covering all other windows, or stays hidden in background until you click on it)
- Change history settings
- Control all desktop icons (you can even hide recycle bin, and so on)
- Control autoplay
- Disable unneeded or obsolete file templates
- Rebuild icons (where wrong icons are shown for files)
- And many more useful settings
