Which program can I use to edit various behavior of Windows

Q: Which program can I use to edit various behavior of Windows?

A: Use PowerToys TweakUI. This very useful utility, strangely not at all promoted by Microsoft, is able to change many settings, among them:

  • Control program focus (whether an opening program pops a window covering all other windows, or stays hidden in background until you click on it)
  • Change history settings
  • Control all desktop icons (you can even hide recycle bin, and so on)
  • Control autoplay
  • Disable unneeded or obsolete file templates
  • Rebuild icons (where wrong icons are shown for files)
  • And many more useful settings
