Removing a tight engine oil filter without a removal tool
Recently, I was in a "field service" condition at a friend's house. I had to loosen a very tight engine oil filter. There was very bad access to the oil filter, so getting in there with a piece of cloth between the filter and my hand would not give proper leverage.
So, filter removal tools are basically a belt with a handle, right? I removed the (leather?) belt from my pants, wrapped it around the filter, and pulled on one end for leverage. Worked like a charm!
