Free car parts
Once upon a time, some aftermarket auto parts manufacturer got the bright idea to offer lifetime replacement warranty on their parts. Their thinking was easy to follow:
Most people do not keep cars for long. A number of people lease their cars. The rest get rid of them in five years or less.
Most people do not save receipts, and do not remember which parts they replaced, when, and where.
The rest of the manufacturers followed, not to be outmatched. Result? My car, which requires replacement of all major parts of the suspension, gets new parts for free. Anytime one of the numerous parts fails, I get a new one, because I have purchased one before.
By the way, this includes such parts as the brake pads and brake rotors. When they are worn down, I get new ones for free.
And no, those parts are not worth the lifetime warranty. I have discovered that manufacturers which offer lifetime warranty do not have better quality than those which do not. Quite often, it is the opposite which is true.
