Chevrolet Astro dim or non-working front side marker light

If your Chevrolet Astro front side marker light bulb is dim or not working, it is because the small side marker bulb is tied to the larger "park / turn" bulb.

Chevrolet Astro exterior lights dim front side marker

I have marked in red the electrical path the 12V takes if the exterior lights switch is turned to the Park or Headlight position. Note that the current travels thru the physically small side marker bulb, and then thru the physically large park / turn bulb. The smaller filament glows, while the larger is basically a connection to ground, and the larger filament does not glow. Notice also the even smaller "left turn indicator" bulb on the instrument panel.

Once you understand this weird way of running the wiring, you can diagnose the issue. More than likely, the contact between the bulb holder and the park / turn bulb has been corroded, or in other way electrically failed.
