Dodge Caravan brake pedal switch -- replacement and adjustment
Dodge Caravan brake pedal switch
Duralast part (from AutoZone) part number CR4854 or similar
Installation and adjustment:
READ INSTRUCTIONS FIRST
DO NOT ROTATE LEVER UNTIL AFTER INSTALLATION
RETURN SWITCH IF YOU ROTATE THE LEVER, OR THE LEVER ON THE SWITCH YOU BOUGHT IS PERPENDICULAR TO THE SWITCH (NOT AT 45* ANGLE).
New switch must have the lever at 45* relative to the switch. It is only rotated after the switch is installed.
Return the switch if you fail to follow instructions, as the manufacturer should have made this point CLEARER for dumb people like me and you who flip things before reading instructions.
If have found the quality of this switch to be very poor. Save your receipt because you will likely have to bring the switch back.
The first time the AutoZone replacement switch failed, it left the brake lights ON overnight, killing the battery.
After two returns, the switch worked for about a year, and then I got an OBD code:
P0703 brake switch B circuit malfunction
This means that the computer has detected eight deceleration cycles without the brake lights activating (switch does not turn on when you press the pedal).
Overall, this is the fourth AutoZone brake light switch. I will see how long it lasts.
