How to record cellphone on your computer

Thankfully, most cellphones are smart enough to allow you to record voice like voice recordings, etc.

On other occasions, you may need to record voicemail or a conversation.

Note: sounds are stored on your cellphone in a proprietary format. Usually, if you send the file as a multimedia message (or similar) to your email, the company will convert the file before it ends up in your email.

It may be possible to record voicemail with premium company offerings (Verizon being one of them), but I would be careful when upgrading to another mailbox that the old voicemail would not be deleted.

If your cellphone is too dumb to easily record or export audio, then you will need to use the analog option. Get a mini connector to 3.5mm converter cable, plug it in to your computer's Line In jack, and use an open source audio recording program such as Audacity.
