Computer randomly freezes for a minute, then comes back to life
The following can cause the symptom of a computer randomly freezing for a minute, then coming back to life:
Bad HD blocks
Excessive number of errors being generated -- check event logs
Bad memory - try re-seating it or running MemTest.
Low RAM – page file is being moved back and forth.
Overheating
You may also want to try turning off startup items, reclaiming HD space if free space is less than 25%, and defrag for general speedup.
