How to detect fake and edited images
In the house environment, the following method can be used to detect fake, edited, or touched-up images:
Turning up the contrast to the extreme maximum will reveal the background noise of the picture.
Any images which came from a camera or a scanner will have background noise. Turning up the gain will reveal it. If there are any irregularities in the background noise, then the image was altered.
Another method to detect fakes is to detect the presence of layers. Some files (such as images exported to pdf) retain information about the layers originally used to work on the original image.
