Fan filters

Should you install a fan filter for your computer (mesh or foam)?

If you choose to install it, or are considering it, then this is actually a decision which can give you trouble instead of what you wanted. You wanted to keep your computer free of dust.

Well, dust will get there no matter what (because cases have many openings). You do not need to have the dust driven inside by the fan. Just a plain hole in the case will move dust freely because of air flows and pressure.

And that mesh or filter will get dirty very soon and drop the airflow very fast.

So you will have a computer that will still have dust inside, but running much hotter and noisier. And if you don't remember to clean the filters regularly, noone else will do it for you.

Just accept the fact that computers and dust cannot exist without each other. Or switch to fanless liquid cooling (fanless as in no fans even at the radiator of the liquid cooling system).
