Fallout 3 DLC installation

If you have tried to install a DLC (downloadable content) for Fallout 3 and failed, and have been searching for a solution, then you know that noone else has described a solution.

This page will clearly tell you how to install DLC on a Steam version of Fallout 3. I have installed Broken Steel, but any DLC will be installed the same.

If you have any questions, you can directly.

Fallout 3 has been installed over Steam, and I went up to level 20, after which the XP progress has stopped.

To install a DLC, you will need to install GFWL (Games for Windows Live), which is the forced down Micro$oft's equivalent of Steam.

Get an account, install the GFWL client, buy 1000 points, and download the DLC.

When the DLC (in the My Media tab of the GFWL) says to have been "installed" you are ready to go to the next step.

Important: the DLC will not be detected or installed automatically. Quit Fallout 3 if you were playing. How do you know whether the DLC was detected automatically?

Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\yourusername\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\XLive\DLC\randomnumber\randomnumber\randomnumber

You should see a few files and a folder named "Content". Copy the files to C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout 3\Data. Also copy the files within the "Content" folder also to C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\fallout 3\Data.

Double-click on the Fallout 3 icon in Steam and let it launch. In the window that appears, click on "Data Files". You should see the name of the DLC with an .esm extension. Select both the DCL and Fallout 3. You can now launch the game, and the level cap should be lifted immediately.

I hope that this would be more helpful than countless other pages on the Internet that you will waste your time on trying to find the solution to this problem.

I request that you link to this page if it solves your problem so that people do not see useless other pages out there that just waste your time. Link to it on every page that provides meaningless instructions.
