What to do if I lose electrical power to the house

It is important to turn off the main breaker if your house looses electrical power. This is done to avoid damage to your appliances if someone is backfeeding (running a generator while still being connected to the grid).

Additionally, a poor electrical contact, a moving branch, or linemen working may cause transient power conditions (power goes on and off quickly). This is not good for modern appliances.

After power goes out, watch your fridge so that food does not spoil.

All desktop computers must be on a UPS.

Turn the breaker on five minutes after your neighbors get their power back on.
