How to fill out a MoneyGram money order
I have a question. I bought a money order to pay someone for a loan they gave me. My wife had misplaced it, and so I had to pay outta my pocket. Well just the other day I found it. It couldn't have came at a better time!
Well I went to cash it and realized it was made out to the wrong person, so I write over the name changing it to mine. No where will cash it, and MoneyGram says I'll have to send it in, get charged $15, and wait 30-65 days to get a new one back. I have the receipt from Wal-Mart showing I bought it, the receipt from the Money order, my credit card statement showing I bought it, not good enough. The only thing that changed was Pay To The Order, not the signature. I think this is bull****, and unfair. MoneyGram refuses to work with me so basically the question is this. Is there anyway to remove the name and cash it instead of getting ripped off by MoneyGram and having to wait that long? I would appreciate any help!

Since you did it thru a credit card you are in luck. Talk to the credit card company and explain the situation. One of two things are possible:
1) They can eat the loss and return you the money
2) They can talk to moneygram, and temporarily deposit the money back on your credit card, until moneygram refunds the money to the credit card. And oh, those companies start listening when they get a three way phone call between them, you, and your credit company representative.
As for trying to alter the money order, I advice against it. Don't make a bad situation worse with altering of financial documents. Yet another solution is if you know the person you were supposed to give the money to, but misspelt their name, is to see if they can still cash that money order with the wrong name. Good luck!
