Explorer.EXE Server execution failed

Server execution failed my documents Windows 7 set to unconnected external HD

Symptom: This error message appears in Windows 7, and keeps re-appearing about every minute even if dismissed.

Explanation: A required system folder such as My Documents was set to an external hard drive, which is not available. This may be due to the external hard drive being unplugged or unpowered, the drive letter to that hard drive was changed, or the hard drive may be having errors.

Solution: either re-enable the external hard drive, or set My Documents (or another folder you have set) back to the System drive.

Even if the hard drive is re-connected, the error message will keep appearing and the system will be sluggish until restarted.
