What to watch out for when e-mailing to public email lists

When sending an email to a public email list, or even to any e-mail address given online, ALWAYS turn off your professional email signature, or use a junk email account. Even if you are lucky enough not to have your email immediately added to a spam list, it will be publicly posted forever, for any laziest spam bots to collect. And believe that the much worse outcome would be to have your private information interlinked -- email account with your name, job position, website, etc.

Watch out -- many websites freely post email that was addressed to them. When you are sending an email to an address posted on a website, it does not mean that the communication would be strictly from you to one other person.

WARNING -- some email lists are so idiotic that they POST ENTIRE EMAIL HEADER as well. That means that your post, email address, and any private signature details will be publicly linked to your location, down to your city, by your IP address.

And while we are on the same subject, do not ever forget that all the information you give about yourself to social networks will be stored forever and is freely indexable.
